The MillerKnoll Archives
A curated selection of 1 million objects and ephemera make up the MillerKnoll Archives. Our 12,000-square-foot research and exhibition center in Michigan is a one-of-a-kind look into the evolution of modern design.
It has been the opportunity of a lifetime to collaborate across brands to ensure these important design legacies remain accessible for generations to come.

A space for learning and inspiration
We use the Archives as a resource for our associates and design partners as well as outside researchers, curators, and academics. We’ve organized it into three key areas: exhibition space, open storage, and a reading room.
Inside the reading room
A trove of design history sits in this room, with memoranda from George Nelson’s first Herman Miller collection, design drawings for classics like the Eames Lounge Chair, original paste-ups by Florence Knoll, and more.
Across the racks
The evolution of modernism flows throughout our open storage racks. Standout pieces include the Womb Chair Eero Saarinen gave to his mother, Gilbert Rohde designs from the 1933 World’s Fair, and early office furniture designs by Florence Knoll.
Manufacturing Modern
The shared histories of Knoll and Herman Miller are illustrated through a selection of iconic designs created by the visionaries who shaped both brands: Florence Knoll, George Nelson, Eero Saarinen, Ray and Charles Eames, Harry Bertoia, and more.
